What happens when you combine the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets, bowling and die-hard fans? “BasketBowl”, a fun charity event held at Brooklyn Bowl in Williamsburg. The playoff-bound team mixed, mingled and bowled with fans, with all proceeds going to Nets Assist, which gives back to communities in need. It was a delight to see the players drop their game faces and have fun interacting with awestruck fans…all for a good cause. Everybody wins!

As a sports fan, it has been a thrill to photograph the NBA from courtside this season, primarily the Brooklyn Nets (which happen to be my favorite team). Here are some of my favorite portraits of them…from lighthearted to deadly serious…but all completely focused.

Grammy-winning salsa king Marc Anthony dominated the stage in an electrifying concert to benefit his Maestro Cares foundation, which seeks to develop housing and educational facilities for underprivileged children in Latin America.

Combining James Bond-suave with smooth vocals and sexy salsa moves, Marc started the show with his hit “I Need to Know” and never looked back…much to delight of his screaming fans. It’s easy to see why Marc Anthony is adored worldwide…he DELIVERS onstage with incomparable stage presence, raw emotions and an obvious love for his fans. And he can add this photographer as his newest fan!

England’s wildly popular folk rock band Mumford & Sons played the first of two sold-out shows at Barclays Center, much to the delight of their New York fans. Their energy was infectious!

Coldplay is a band that knows how to please…and amaze…their fans. The first three songs alone were a visual feast of colorful lasers, huge bouncing balls and confetti…LOTS of confetti. And charismatic lead singer Chris Martin was the perfect complement to all this, full of energy and exaltation. Good times!

Mr. Bocelli made his Brooklyn debut…treating his adoring audience to a soaring voice that’s been touched by God.

It was a pleasure photographing the U.S. Olympic Gymnastic Team in action (including the gold-medal winning “Fierce Five”)  as part of the Kellogg’s Tour of Gymnastics Champions. What I loved most was seeing the huge crowd of young girls clearly in awe and inspired by these incredible athletes. I wish they had tours like these when I was a little girl!

It was quite an experience shooting Justin Bieber. It was fun seeing so much sheer, insane, straight-up happiness…nothing else mattered to all these young girls who clearly worship The Biebs. And it’s easy to see why: the kid puts on a good show. I honestly think the ringing in my ears afterwards were more from the girls screaming than the loudness of the music!

As a kid, I always loved watching the Globetrotters and their b-ball antics on TV. So it was a thrill to photograph their recent game at the Barclays Center! Tons of fun for kids of all ages, plus, they acknowledged Breast Cancer Awareness month with pink uniforms and basketballs during the second half. The Globie won of course….but the audience was the big winner of the night.

If you live in the NYC area, you’ve no doubt heard about Brooklyn’s new sports & entertainment arena, the high-tech, ultra-modern Barclays Center. With the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets, Barbra Streisand, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga and other top acts on the way, it’s poised to rival Madison Square Garden as THE place to perform in the New York area.

NYC’s iconic Madison Square Garden will have a new, state-of-the art rival this fall: the Barclays Center, home of the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets. The arena will also feature top music acts (such as Jay-Z, Barbra Streisand, Andrea Bocelli), family shows, and lots of sporting events. Recently, I was lucky enough to tour the Barclays Center…still being constructed…along with BrooklynFans.com and the Nets’ new announcer, the always-interesting David Diamante….

The Barclays Center will open on September 28 in a huge way…with a concert by Nets co-owner Jay-Z!
