The Brooklyn Nets are all smiles… (6 photos)
I love shooting teams during their warmups, as you get to see another side to their personalities. Their uber-serious “game faces” aren’t on yet, and it’s fascinating to see players being much more lighthearted and frankly…more like one of “us”..
Photographing the Brooklyn Nets this season, I’ve seen a major change…when shooting them earlier this season when they losing practically every game, the mood was decidedly solemn. Now that they’ve turned things around and won their last 9 of 10 games, that solemnity has lifted…the Nets are smiling, joking…and much more at ease.
Brooklyn Nets vs Miami Heat on “Nickname Jersey Night” at Barclays Center. (10 photos)
The NBA has implemented “Nickname Jerseys” across the league, adding even more fun to this high-octane sport. The Brooklyn Nets and Miami Heat were the first teams to where them during an actual game…fans can purchase them at local stores. Some nicknames (eg LeBron’s “King James”) were pretty obvious, while others were a little surprising….
Brooklyn Nets vs. Milwaukee Bucks, Dec. 27, 2013 (10 photos)
Barclays Center, Brooklyn New York
As a photographer, there are few things more exciting than being up close and personal with the action you are shooting. It’s about knowing you are a PART of the scene…and capturing it for eternity…whether it’s a wedding, a concert or a professional basketball game. It’s about the thrill of doing what you love…to the highest degree.
PHOTO GALLERY: Adrien Broner vs. Paulie Malignaggi (10 photos)
Barclays Center, Brooklyn NY
Another terrific night of boxing at Barclays Center, as Adrien Broner fought arch-rival Paulie Malignaggi. What made the fight captivating were the two wildly contrasting styles of the boxers. Malignaggi, a fireball of energy, constantly threw punches, seemingly non-stop, for all 12 rounds. Meanwhile Broner was calm, cool and exceedingly methodical, throwing punches only when necessary. Slow and steady proved the victor, as Broner won a split decision…and the WBA welterweight belt in the process.
PHOTO GALLERY: “BasketBowl” with the Brooklyn Nets (10 photos)
What happens when you combine the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets, bowling and die-hard fans? “BasketBowl”, a fun charity event held at Brooklyn Bowl in Williamsburg. The playoff-bound team mixed, mingled and bowled with fans, with all proceeds going to Nets Assist, which gives back to communities in need. It was a delight to see the players drop their game faces and have fun interacting with awestruck fans…all for a good cause. Everybody wins!
PHOTO GALLERY: Broadway Boxing at BB King’s Blues Club (10 photos)
I’ve long been a boxing fan, so it was a thrill to photograph bouts at BB King’s Blues Club in NYC…especially the female boxers. Loved the intimacy of the venue, but the sparse lighting made this a very difficult…but ultimately fulfilling…photo shoot.
PHOTO GALLERY: St. John’s vs. Notre Dame at Madison Square Garden (10 photos)
Terrific…and intense…game as underdog St. John’s upset #20 Notre Dame, 67-63. Gotta say, I’m quickly becoming a fan of college basketball. It’s a different kind of intensity…a different kind of hunger…than you find in the NBA. And that goes for the fans, too!
PHOTO GALLERY: Temple vs. Syracuse at Madison Square Garden (10 photos)
As a sports/concert photographer, my dream of sitting on the floor of The Garden to shoot an event came true today. And what an event it was: the Gotham Classic, pitting #3 Syracuse vs. unranked (and huge underdog) Temple. The game was fantastic, with Temple pulling a huge upset, winning 83-79 and handing Syracuse their first loss of the season. Here are my favorite shots…
It was a joy and a privilege to shoot a charity softball game between Special Olympics athletes and employees from Macy’s Department Store. It was sheer joy to be in the company of the Special Olympics athletes, thanks to their winning personalities and competitive spirit. I look forward to working with them again. Plus, over $3000 was raised!
Central Park, NYC
PhotoSet: New York Liberty vs. Connecticut Sun
As a photographer for BrooklynFans.com, I’ve been shooting a lot of sports lately…and loving it. So as a die-hard fan of the WNBA and the New York Liberty since Day 1, it was a dream come true to sit on the court with other sports photographers and shoot the game! As always with the Liberty, it was a fun, exciting night. Want to read the article I wrote re-capping the game? Check it out here!
PhotoSet: New York Mets pitcher Johan Santana…
I’ve been doing a lot of sports photography the past few months for BrooklynFans.com, and one of the highlights was shooting Johan Santana, who pitched a no-hitter for the NY Mets earlier this season. After suffering an injury, Santana pitched for the minor league Brooklyn Cyclones as part of his rehabilitation. Here are some of the photos from that game…
PhotoSet: Inside the new, still-under construction Barclays Center arena!
NYC’s iconic Madison Square Garden will have a new, state-of-the art rival this fall: the Barclays Center, home of the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets. The arena will also feature top music acts (such as Jay-Z, Barbra Streisand, Andrea Bocelli), family shows, and lots of sporting events. Recently, I was lucky enough to tour the Barclays Center…still being constructed…along with BrooklynFans.com and the Nets’ new announcer, the always-interesting David Diamante….
The Barclays Center will open on September 28 in a huge way…with a concert by Nets co-owner Jay-Z!
